As most of you are well aware this past May our roof leaked and made a not so beautiful hole in my kitchen ceiling. Tom quickly gave us a new roof (see post) but we still had the unsightly hole in the kitchen. We had a couple of contractors give us bids on replacing the ceiling. We submitted the bit to our homeowners insurance and waited and waited and waited just a bit more and finally our claim was approved and the check was recieved. Yep, I did a happy dance. :) Our wonderful and talented neighbor Spencer Edwards tackled the job of replacing the ceiling. He took 3 days and it looks AMAZING.
After we squared things with him we were left with some $$ so we decided to go on a little adventure.
While getting ready for the day one Saturday, we happened to watch a commercial for Kitchen Renovations from Rustoleaum. We immediately jumped on the internet and watched the short videa and how to. We loved it! We were able to transform our kitchen right in front of our eyes. We decided to give it a try. The video assured us we could get a new kitchen in about a week.
First, Tom worked on the cabinets. We went from our contractors golden oak
to Glazed River Birch
Next, Tom tackled our counter tops. We had talked several times in the past about maybe tiling the counters but I wasn't sold on the tile. I wasn't looking forward to trying to keep the grout clean. But with the Rustoleum it gives your countertops the look of a solid surface. We went from a lovely shade of vanilla formica
to Java Stone
Check out the steps ~ this is so COOL
After Tom applied the rock chips ~ he sanded, sanded and sanded some more to make them smooth. Then he applied a top coat and this is where the week comes to play. You have to wait 3 full days before you can touch the counter and a full 6 or 7 before applying pressure. So on day 7, Dale and Tom worked for hours to get the new stainsteel sink put in. Once the sink was in Tom worked for a couple more days and covered the vanilla formica back splash with tile.
To save some money we sprayed painted our light fixtures. I know you are thinking "spray paint, how redneck" but seriously they look amazing. We painted all the brass to deep brown.
I have to give a big shout out to Tom and the boys who did most of the work. I love it. We are hoping to get a new floor in the spring ~ not sure tile or hardwood.... until then I LOVE my new kitchen. Thanks babe.
