Vacation 2011 ~ Camping Leatherow Style

This summer is quite different than summers in the past for our family. The most significant difference is the absence of comp soccer. Yep, Weston is no longer playing soccer on the comp level. The next change, Wes is enrolled in a summer school program up at WSU, HCOP. He attends class Monday thru Friday from 8 to 3. This is a program that he had to apply for, write an essay and go thru an interview process. We are super proud of him and he has really enjoyed the program. When you get a chance ask him about it. Another change this summer, we are not heading to one of our many Trendwest Resorts. With the cost of the new roof we felt it made more sense to stay local, a stay-cation so to speak. With that being said, let me tell you about our vacation. It was WONDERFUL.
Tom and the boys loaded up the truck and trailer, the four wheelers and we headed to the hills. The hills up in Hyrum that is. We thought that it would be great to head back to Blacksmith Fork. This was a favorite camp spot for our family when the boys were super little (in fact Colton doesn't remember too much and Garett, well I believe he was still just a twinkle in his daddy's eye). We were a bit bummed when we arrived to see "our" meadow had already been taken. So Tom found us an even better meadow if you ask me. It was off the road so you don't eat all the dust from the crazy guys flying up the road and we were literally all by ourself. Another bonus, I was only about 200 yards from the potty.
We worked together as a family and got the tents up, got the kitchen for the week organized and unloaded the four wheelers.

After all was set up Tom and Garett headed off to fish. Tom caught a fish right after his line hit the water. Man this was a sign of the luck he was going to have for the week. He was catching them left and right. Garett on the other had was not quite so lucky and he got a bit mad. I couldn't help but laugh as he was pouting. Colton also had his run of bad luck when he snapped his new fly rod in half.

I like to tag along when the boys fish ~ this is the view from the bridge upstream. The outdoors are just spectaular. Heavenly Father really knows how to paint a picture.

When the boys were not fishing they were shooting their BB guns at anything and everything.

Including eachother. Yep, you read that correctly. Weston wondered how it would feel to be shot by a BB gun that was only pumped ONCE. So his dad helped him satisfy is curiousity. What a dad. Weston paced it off and Tom gave the BB gun ONE pump and hit Weston right on the calf.

Well another change this summer ~ Weston is a working man. So before he had to cut his vacation short we made sure we did S'mores. What a great time that evening was. All of my guys and me sitting around the camp fire. I did most of the listening as the conversation is ALWAYS about the upcoming hunts. Don't get me wrong, I love the chatter between the boys, it really is music to my hears. They get so excited and are so passionate about the sport.
Lovin' the S'mores.

Tess and her family drove up one evening for dinner.

I don't know why I missed getting a photo of Corben. Darn it.
There are only a few things I miss about the trailer and being able to wash my hair is probably number one. So my husband offered to wash my hair one morning and I could not resist. It was heavenly. Thank you Tom, I love you.

No camping trip is complete without Dutch Oven potatoes....

Yep ~ that is Weston. He knew Dutch Oven was on the menu for Sunday so he drove back up for the day.
The weather was wonderful the entire time we were camping ~ so wonderful in fact we were able to sleep in and fall into a deep sleep that I didn't hear someone snap a photo of us snoring.

If we had to find one thing to complain about for the week it would be the lack of riding. The two trails were both closed due to snow and water damage but the boys managed to find some fun.

And mom and dad pose for a photo opp.

This was a wonderful family vacation. I had time to spend with all my boys, I read a great book and ate some great cooking. Can't wait for the next camp trip. I love you Leatherow boys.

A new roof over our heads

This year we knew we would be replacing our roof and once the wet spring let up for a long weekend we jumped at the chance to get the job done.

I cannot even begin to express my love and appreciation for our family and friends who gave up their weekend to help us. It was such a blessing to have so much help.

As you can see from the photos we had plenty of help.

We only had one minor fall.....Josh came thru the back patio ~ OOPS. Luckily he was not hurt and we were able to just puch the siding back into place.

Anyone who knows me knows that I don't love the look on our home from the outside but it is amazing to me how just changing out the color of the shingles makes me love it so much more. The boys did a fantastic job of picking out the color.

My little way of saying thank you. Candy, Gum and movie passes.

Rain, Rain go AWAY

The spring of 2011 has broken records for the amount of rain fall. It has been cooler than previous years as well. I am NOT complaining about the cooler temps ~ It has been terrific but the rain did a number on our little humble abode her on 3rd St. Over Memorial Day weekend we woke up to a puddle of water on our kitchen floor ....why? Take a look at the nice hole in our ceiling

Luckily, if you can call us lucky, we were not able to go out of town for the long weekend due to flooding in the campgrounds and too much snow left in the hills.
We called our homeowners insurance and are now playing the waiting game to get it fixed. In the meantime, Tom, Dale, the boys, Josh, and lots of neighbors ripped off our old roof and gave our home a much needed new one. We got rid of the nice green/gray shingles and went with a wonderful brown. It really amazes me the way a roof changes the look of a home.
Stay tuned for photos of the fixed kitchen.

Gotta love being a homeowner.

Celebrating with Liam at Cold Springs Trout Farm

Josh and Jenn held Liam's birthday party at Cold Springs Trout Farn in North Ogden and it was a great time. They were able to rent the pavillion and each child was allowed to catch two fish. We dined on delicious sub sandwiches and then everyone headed off to fish. Weston and Tyson Watkins were bound and determined to catch a fish in their buckets

After several attempts Weston was victorious

Then Weston, Kenzi and Colton decided to conquer catching a fish with their bare hands (this is going against rule number one at the trout farm, please do not attempt)

After several attempts and making a wet mess of himself Colton finally was the man and caught one of his fish with is hands

Kenz also had her share of success. She was the winner in our clan for the biggest fish. But hey she has already made one amazing catch, right? I am his mom so I can say that.

Blake and Tess' kids do NOT like fish, I repeat DO NOT like the fish

I was not able to catch a photo of Corben doing his little freak out but he had a melt down as well after he brought his fish out of the water

Ryker was just content to do whatever; fish with dad or just relax in the stroller and take in the sun

Keep the fish away and Jaycee is happy

Shon and Sam also enjoyed the day. Look at the expert way Jenn throws the fish pellets to help Shon catch the big one.

Tyson helping Garett

Tom and his catch of the day; again his greatest catch happened about 22 years ago. OK maybe that was a bit cheesy but his is my blog so I get to be cheesy.
Thanks Josh and Jenn for inviting us and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Liam
