Deer Camp X 3

Tom, Weston, and Colton all had deer tags to fill this year. Tom and Colton drew general buck deer tags for the northern area and Weston was super lucky and drew a limit entry buck deer at Emma Park, down near Price.
When all the tags were drawn I looked at Tom with a look of I am so happy for you but really 3 deer? We, like everyone else, are feeling the pinch in the pocket book and I know how expensive processing can be and on top of that I really dislike the taste of Mule Deer. Tom assured me that he was only going to shoot if he saw a deer he just couldn't pass up and if you look back at the past deer hunts our winning streak is not very winning.
First up Tom. He and Colton head up to Mantua (Garett and Weston couldn't miss school) and I head off to work. Tom was super excited to have some one on one time with Colton and just get out and ride the bikes. He said the morning was great he didn't see any other hunters and was just enjoying being outside. He then spotted a nice buck. He told Colton to go ahead and have a shot. Colton's shot missed so Tom pulled up and down the deer went and down and down and down. When Tom called me he was excited and perplexed. He and Colton were not going to be able to get the deer out by themselves it was a big one. I was excited for him, I really was. It was fun to hear the excitement in his voice ~ Gosh I love this man.
So he made a few phone calls ~ Justin Chadwick and Blair Christensen came to his rescue (Blair even had a deer cart). The hunters arrived home late that night. Congrats Tom.

Next up Colton. Once again Tom and Colton headed out but his time Garett was able to go with them Weston stayed home because he was fighting some pink eye and he had just started his eye drops. They headed out Sunday morning early and drove to Mantua once again. By the time 7:30 AM rolled around Collton had shot his deer and the boys were headed home. Now that is my kind of hunting. Garett says he got "jipped" he wanted to ride the bikes longer, hike more and just hang out.
Congrats Colton

My husband sometimes remembers the weirdest things such as he shot his first deer on a Sunday, Weston shot his on a Sunday and Colton now shot his on a Sunday. Don't you just love family traditions?

Next up Weston. With Weston drawing the limit entry tag he was limited to just him and his dad for the hunt. The two loaded up the truck and off they went. Weston was bound and determined to get "the" buck. Once they had camp set up

they headed out to look around as the hunting didn't start until the following morning. Of course that night they saw a nice buck, one that was worthy of being brought home. The next morning they can't find the buck anywhere. They hunt a few more days and Chad decides to drive down. I know I mentioned early that only the hunter and one guest but my boys are rebels. That evening Weston shot his buck.

Needless to say our freezer is full of deer and Tom has been making lots of jerky. I know that I should be thankful for the bounty in the freezer this time of year and during this hard economic time but I just don't like the taste of it but there is absolutely nothing wrong with eating vegitarian a few nights a week. :)
Congrats to my guys.
