I cannot believe the day actually arrived for us to load into the blazer and hit the road. The boys were excited I think...
We traveled thru mostly flat highway with nothing to look at but sage brush, antelope, sage brush and did I mention we got to see the elusive sage brush? The winds really kicked up out on the flat and we got to be serenaded by the lovely travel bag on top. I kept saying are you sure we won't loose the bag, are you sure we won't flip ~ so maybe I was a bit over the top but the wind was really howling. As we traveled there was literally nothing in sight. The boys had to stop so Tom pulled over and they tried to go to the bathroom without them "misting" themselves...too funny for this mom. Colton walked over the ridge to get out of the wind. As for Tom well pictures do speak for themselves.
As we traveled we also watched the gas gauge edge very close to the lovely red E on the gas gauge and we are still in the middle of nowhere. According to the GPS we are still 30 or more miles from gas. But we see a town ahead and are hopeful. We arrive in Baggs, WY and are saved. Why the gas station didn't show up on the GPS is still puzzling. While there we fill up the gas tank as well as our bellies. The boys decided that the theme for this vacation was "YOLO" You Only Live Once. So at this gas station they served deep fried frog legs, chicken gizzards and chicken strips. Yep, my boys placed their order. Here is Weston enjoying his frog legs.
The other boys tried the other deep fried dishes.
As for this mom, well we may have been living by the motto YOLO ~ I was not living on the edge. But I did find something in Baggs that made my day.... my favorite gum Orbit Maui Melon Mint and it has been next to impossible to find and they had it. I purchased three packs that day.
On the way home we also stopped and to the embarrassment of my boys I bought every pack they had. So I came home with 13 packs of gum. LOVE IT.
We arrive in Steamboat Springs right around 4:30 and check into our condo. It seems a bit small at first but we can make this our home for a week.
This is the view from our balcony.
Once we got everything unloaded and we unwound a bit from the 6 hour drive we headed out to dinner. We just walked down historic Main Street (it is very much like Park City). We were looking for some great pizza. We ended up deciding on Brooklyn's Pizzeria. I wasn't the best pizza we have enjoyed but it was fun.
We are wearing our LiveStrong T-Bone bracelets in honor of a good friend who is battling cancer.
On our way back to the condo we took our time and just browsed the shops and just played. This is what vacation is all about.
Once we made our way back to the condo, the other Leatherow group had arrived. Tom and I did some grocery shopping and the boys just relaxed. Just like at home Weston needs to have his nightly bowl of cereal, however the bowls in the condo are just too small so he finds a mixing bowl. O' what this mom wouldn't give to have his metabolism.
And that is Day One of Vacation 2012. I am so blessed to be surrounded by my guys!
