They wanted to see if we really do eat with our eyes. So they took some vanilla ice cream and colored it with non-tasting red and brown food dye ~ thus strawberry and chocolate and they left some white, vanilla
They then set up the test group, a classroom of fourth graders. They had all the students taste the flavors and complete a survey of what the flavor was (remember they are ALL vanilla) The responses were great. It was so hard for Garett and Craig to keep a straight face as the students knew they were tasting strawberry, caramel, chocolate and even a few pumpkin spice flavored ice cream. They then told the students to look for the display at the science fair to see the results and to see if they really did know their ice cream flavors.
Garret and Craig were awarded 2nd place in the fifth grade for their project and they discovered that your sense of sight really do effect your sense of taste. It was a fun project and in the end I can say I honestly enjoyed it this year. Congrats boys ~ well done
